Clematis para espaços pequenos

Tenho Clematis há já três anos no meu jardim-pátio. Noto que, conforme as plantas vão amadurecendo, vão florindo mais generosamente. Este foi o ano em que tive mais flores. No entanto havia algo que me dizia que eu não estava a fazer as coisas correctamente. No último Chelsea Flower Show estava um dos maiores cultivadores de Clematis do mundo, o sr. Raymond J. Evison, que tem uma grande produção destas plantas na ilha de Guernsey. Estive a trocar algumas palavras com ele, que se mostrou admirado por eu cultivar Clematis com algum sucesso em Portugal. (Ele imagina Portugal um país muito mais seco e quente do que na realidade é). Entretanto um amigo ofereceu-me o livro escrito por ele e assinado pelo autor.

Terminei ontem de o ler e, desde já cheguei à conclusão que devia ter podado as plantas anualmente. Este ano irão todas ser podadas e veremos depois os resultados.

O livro é bom e explica muito bem o que fazer após a compra de uma destas plantas, como a plantar, onde, os tipos de vasos, as armações, as regas, fertilização, etc. Acho que por vezes torna-se algo repetitivo e difícil de ler porque não conhecemos as variedades que o autor menciona na sua escrita e que, apesar de ter muitas fotos ilustrativas, torna um bocado difícil seguir e perceber os vários tipos de Clematis. Por vezes parece que o livro não é escrito para quem quer começar com Clematis mas sim para quem já tem alguma experiência com estas plantas. Talvez seja porque existe uma grande variedade destas plantas em Inglaterra e por cá são muito raras. Talvez seja essa a questão. No entanto considero-o uma muito boa leitura para quem possa estar interessado em Clematis.

I have Clematis in my patio garden for the past three years. As the plants get more mature I have more flowers. But something was telling me that I wasn’t doing the right thing with them.This year at Chelsea, I had the pleasure to have a few words with one of the bigger Clematis grower of the world, Raymond J. Evison, author of the book CLEMATIS FOR SMALL SPACES. He was very surprised that I had any success with Clematis in Portugal, I think he imagined Portugal with a much hot an dry climate. At the end a friend offered me the book signed by the author.I really liked the book as it explains all you have to do to make the best out of this plants but found it a bit confusing. It seams like the author is writting for people who already know about Clematis and not for a complete amator as I am. Maybe the english reality is very different from the portuguese reality. There you can find many of this plants and in Portugal they are a rarity. The book gave me also some ideas to improve the Clematis in my garden, I’ll see if they work for next year.The pictures above are from the Clematis in my garden.
